These photos were taken years ago with a little point and shoot from my studio window.

By August, we have hordes of hummers.
Because they return to the same spot year after year,
we just keep getting more and more!

I heard one way to estimate the number of individuals you have, is to
count the number you can see at one time, and then multiply it by four.

The most I could count at one time was 37, so we easily
have over 100 birds here now.

Keeping up with the feeders is a time consuming job. It takes real commitment
because the little cuties depend on it. Once you start, you have to keep up with
the filling and cleaning. This has to be done on a daily basis when you have a
large number of birds. That means no vacations unless you can employ a bird
sitting service! The entertainment and joy we get from their presence greatly
out weighs the work involved. I'm counting the days until their return!

We went through 100 lbs. of sugar last year between April and October!
